Reddick Foundation bringing Colt Ford to Freedom Park
Colt Ford will headline a concert planned for Jan. 9 at Rincon’s Freedom Park as part of a Josh Reddick Foundation fundraiser.
“We’re looking to bring in some talent and some entertainment into the city and give back as much as we can,” Reddick told Rincon City Council members.
Reddick, an Effingham County native and resident and outfielder for the Oakland Athletics, started his charitable foundation to help in the community.
“It’s a locally raised foundation to give back to the community as much as I can, wherever it’s necessary, wherever it’s needed,” he said.
Council members approved the request to use the park for the Jan. 9 event, and event organizer Trey Saxon said they expect a crowd of 500-1,000. Gates will open at 4 p.m. the day of the show, and the lineup includes Josh Sanders and Brian Fuller.
“We hope the event is something that grows to be very large in the years to come,” Saxon said. “I’m expecting 1,000, even though we only have six weeks to promote it.”
Said Mayor Ken Lee: “We’ve been looking for opportunities to use that property.”
Event organizers also will apply for an alcohol license in order to sell beer at the concert.
“Everything raised is given right back to Effingham County and our communities,” Saxon said. “Even the proceeds from beer sales go right back into the charity.”
Organizers will pay to provide three police officers for security, as well as provide security for the acts.
Saxon said ticket sales will take place at a couple places around Rincon and tickets will be available on etix.com. There will be sales at the gate on the day of the event, but those passes will cost an additional $5.
“We will have a good idea on the crowd from pre-sales,” he said.
The Josh Reddick Foundation has endowed two scholarships each at Effingham County and South Effingham high schools for student-athletes.
Reddick said he also wants to provide assistance to local public safety and emergency personnel when needed.
“Wherever we need any help,” he said.
