Hurricane Irma Update

The City of Rincon elected officials and staff are meeting regularly with the Effingham Emergency Management Agency to prepare for Hurricane Irma.  Governor Deal has declared a state of emergency for 30 counties, including Effingham, which is under a voluntary evacuation as of 8 AM on Friday.  There will be a decision made on Friday, September 8, 2017, to determine if a mandatory evacuation order will be issued for Effingham County.  We urge you to evacuate should you feel the need.  Sand for sandbags will be available for residents at Freedom Park, 6755 Prosperity Drive.

As of Saturday at 8 AM all lanes on I-16 will be in contra-flow (all lanes will be limited to west bound traffic only).  Effingham County schools will be closed from Friday – Tuesday.  Evacuation shelter locations are being set up and locations will be posted as they become available.

Please check our Facebook Page and the City Website,, for regular updates.

Thank you,

Mayor Lee and City Council
