City of Rincon General Election Notice




Notice is given that a Municipal General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, at the City of Rincon Vernon C. Hinely Community Center located at Hwy 21 at the corner of 9th Street, with a street address of 102 South Columbia Avenue, Rincon, Georgia, to elect three (3) City Councilmembers to serve four year terms on the Rincon City Council. Advanced voting will be held October 14, 2019 through November 1, 2019.

The qualifying period will commence at 8:30 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019 and end not later than 4:30 p.m. daily through Friday, August 23, 2019, any person desiring to qualify as a candidate for City Council shall file notice at the Rincon City Hall located at 302 S. Columbia Ave., Rincon, Georgia. Qualifying fee for City Council members is $90.00. The salary for the office of Councilmember for the preceding calendar year was $3,000.00 per year for each position.

The candidate must be a qualified voter in the municipal election for which he/she is qualifying, and is not disqualified to hold an office in the state. Candidates must file Campaign Contribution Disclosure Reports pursuant to the Georgia Ethics in Government Act. Forms are available at

As per Section 2.11 of the Rincon City Charter, - terms and qualifications for office in the City of Rincon, states as follows: “No person shall be eligible to serve as mayor or councilmember unless such a person has been a resident of the city for a period of at least 12 months immediately prior to the date of the election of the members of council; each shall continue to reside therein during period of service and to be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections in the city”. 

The closing date to register as an elector for this election shall be 5:00 p.m. October 7, 2019. In order to register as an elector, one must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the City of Rincon. Any person who possesses the qualifications of an elector except those concerning age shall be permitted to register to vote, if such person will acquire such qualifications within six (6) months after the day of registration, provided, however, that such person shall not be permitted to vote in an election until the acquisition of such qualifications.
