OF RINCON SPECIAL ELECTION NOTICE
Notice is given that a Municipal Special Election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the City of Rincon Vernon C. Hinely Community Center located on Georgia Hwy 21 at the corner of 9th Street, with a street address of 102 South Columbia Avenue, Rincon, Georgia, to elect one (1) City Council member to complete the term for a vacated Rincon City Council seat. The term of said vacated seat shall expire on December 31, 2021.
The qualifying period to fill the
vacated Rincon City Council seat shall be on March 30, 2020, from 8:30 A.M.
until 4:30 P.M., on March 31, 2020, from 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M., and on April
1, 2020, from 8:30 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Any
person desiring to qualify as a candidate to fill the remaining term of the
vacated Rincon City Council seat shall file notice at the Rincon City Hall
located at 302 S. Columbia Ave., Rincon, Georgia, on the above listed
qualifying dates and times. The
qualifying fee has been set at $90.00 per qualifying candidate. The salary for the office of Councilperson
for the preceding calendar year was $3,000.00 per year for each position.

As per Section 2.11 of the Rincon City Charter, - terms and qualifications for office in the City of Rincon, shall be as follows: “No person shall be eligible to serve as mayor or councilmember unless such a person has been a resident of the city for a period of at least 12 months immediately prior to the date of the election of the members of council; each shall continue to reside therein during period of service and to be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections in the city”. The closing date to register as an elector for this election shall be 5:00 p.m. April 20, 2020. In order to register as an elector for this special election, one must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the City of Rincon as prescribed by the Rincon City Charter. Any person who possesses the qualifications of an elector, except those concerning age, shall be permitted to register to vote, if such person will acquire such qualifications within six (6) months after the day of registration, provided, however, that such person shall not be permitted to vote in an election until the acquisition of such qualifications.
